Sheffield, UK – 19 September 2025 – Suiso Limited (“Suiso”), the Sheffield-based cleantech company developing breakthrough gasdecarbonisation technology, today announced the successful completion of a three-month pilot demonstration at the University of Sheffield’s Energy Innovation Centre (“EIC”). The milestone marks a significant step forward in proving Suiso’s capability to remove carbon from hydrocarbon gases at industrial scale, providing a practical new route for hard-to-electrify sectors to cut emissions immediately.
The pilot tested Suiso’s methane-pyrolysis system on an industrial gas-fired furnace with a power rating of up to 300 kW, operating under real-world production conditions—including cyclical operations, cold starts and emergency shut-downs. The system consistently delivered stable hydrogen/natural-gas blends with zero lost-time events, while maintaining operational performance and demonstrating compatibility with industrial heat-processing environments.
In a further validation of technology readiness, Suiso completed a successful casting of an aerospace test component provided by the University of Sheffield’s Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (“AMRC”), confirming that the decarbonised fuel blend could support demanding, precision-led manufacturing processes.
The demonstration also drew substantial interest from industry. Senior engineers and decision-makers from more than 30 companies across heavy manufacturing, food and beverage, ceramics, healthcare and local government attended site visits during the pilot period, highlighting strong commercial appetite for near-term decarbonisation solutions that do not depend on largescale hydrogen infrastructure or full electrification.
The Pilot received significant support from the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (“SYMCA”) who provided significant support before, during and after the demo but also contributed financially via their Investment Zone initiative.
Stuart McKnight, CEO of Suiso, commented: “It is with great pleasure that we announce the successful completion of this landmark pilot. Demonstrating our technology at the University of Sheffield’s Energy Innovation Centre marks a significant step forward for Suiso and for the wider industrial decarbonisation agenda. Over the past three months we have shown, in real-world operating conditions, that carbon can be removed from gas pre-combustion in a way that is practical, reliable and commercially compelling for industry.
Many businesses have told us they face an impossible choice: they cannot afford full electrification, and they cannot yet access lowcost, low-carbon hydrogen. This pilot proves there is a viable alternative available now. Our system offers a credible, near-term pathway for manufacturers to cut emissions without disrupting operations or relying on uncertain external fuel supplies.
Reaching this milestone has been a genuine team effort. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to SYMCA, the EIC and the AMRC for their outstanding support, and to the more than 30 companies and organisations who attended the demonstrations and provided invaluable feedback. Their engagement reinforces the strong demand for practical decarbonisation technologies across the UK’s industrial base.
We look forward to building on this momentum as we move towards commercial deployment.”
ABOUT SUISO
Suiso is developing advanced pyrolysis technology designed to decarbonise hydrocarbon gases—including natural gas, LPG, propane and biogas—without the need for large infrastructure changes. The system enables manufacturers and commercial users of gas-fired thermal processes to remove carbon before combustion, significantly reducing emissions while maintaining operational continuity.
Because Suiso’s decarbonised fuel blend is produced on-site using the customer’s existing gas supply, users avoid reliance on external hydrogen delivery networks and can implement decarbonisation quickly with minimal disruption. The process also produces solid carbon in activated form, with potential applications in water treatment, air purification, batteries and other high-value industrial sectors.
