Whilst decarbonising gas fired heat processes, Suiso’s technology makes high surface area, microporous, low ash and moisture, high purity powdered carbon – a pre-cursor to Activated Carbon. With limited additional processing, it has the potential to be used in a wide variety of applications including water and air purification, food and beverages and pharmaceuticals and has a global market that exceeds $7bn.
Activated Carbon is a specialty chemical which has been manufactured all over the world since the early 1900s – but typically in very CO2 emissive processes. Suiso carbon has near zero CO2 emissions created during its production, compared to 2-4 kgCO2/kgC produced via traditional methods.
Suiso’s research team are also investigating other carbon upgrading options including “hard”/battery carbons and specialist graphites which are possible using Suiso system’s output carbon.
