
Suiso is developing a breakthrough pyrolysis technology which decarbonises hydrocarbon gases - natural gas, LPG, propane or biogas - used in gas fired heat processes.
Gas is used to generate heat in furnaces, boilers, ovens and kilns in many industries and commercial organisations throughout the world. Most of these companies and institutions want to reduce the emissions that are created by their use of gas, but find existing - such as electrification, post combstion carbon capture or hydrogen - unaffordable and in some cases impossible to implement.

Suiso’s core technology was developed mid-2010s as part of work undertaken for the US DoE and Californian Energy Commission. This explored the scope to generate Hydrogen from methane using microwave energy. The founding team acquired this in 2022 and focussed on enhancing the system's carbon removal capability - e.g. extending its applicability to a broader range of hydrocarbon gases (natural gas, LPG, propane, etc.) and carbon output upgrading.
A key feature of the Suiso's technology is its ability to remove carbon from these gases before combustion takes place in the user's furnaces, boilers, ovens, kilns, etc. This is a more effecive and cost efficient way to reduce CO2 emissions than post combustion carbon capture. The carbon is removed in easy to handle solid form which has number commercial aplications.
The use of a proprietary reaction initiatorIts in a highly efficient microwave driven reactor, delivers high rates of carbon removal at temperatures well below the 1000degC typically needed in a pyrolysis process. No expensive catalyst is required nor is the formation of plasma necessary for the Suiso process. The design ensures lower operating and capital costs compared to other decarbonisation solutions such as electrification or electrification or even electrolytic green hydregen.
Suiso’s technology is compact, and its carbon removal units are capable of being built in shipping container format. These units will initially reduce CO2e emissions from gas fired heat procees over 1.25 tonnesCO2e/day but will eventually remove up to 5 tonnesCO2e/day.
Whilst decarbonizing gas fired heat processes, Suiso’s technology makes high surface area, microporous, micron sized, low ash and moisture, high purity powdered carbon – a pre-cursor to Activated Carbon.. With limited additional processing, it has potential to be used in a wide variety of applications including water and air purification, food and beverages, pharmaceuticals, etc. and has a global market that exceeds $7bn
Activated Carbon is a specialty chemical which has been manufactured all over the world since the early 1900s - but typically in very CO2 emissive processes. Suiso carbon has near zero CO2 emissions created in its production compared 2-4 kgCO2/kgC produced by traditional methods.
